The Promise to America Pledge works to align the Democratic Party around a clear set of principles to regain voters’ trust and build a sustainable majority.
The Promise to America is a set of six principles: capitalism, safety, fiscal responsibility, effective government, common purpose, and patriotism. It is designed to align the Democratic Party around the values and priorities in which the broad majority of Americans believe.
The Promise was developed collaboratively between a team of fellows and Congressmen Tom Suozzi (NY-03) and Adam Gray (CA-13), the only two Democrats to flip Trump-won districts in the 2024 cycle.
The team behind the Promise is made up of nine fellows, young people from across the country who are frustrated with the state of American politics and the Democratic Party. We were inspired by the leaders willing to lead with courage and specificity. We have two main priorities: organizing elected officials, candidates, and citizens to unite behind the pledge and highlighting the signers who embody its ideals.
Americans see Democrats as being extreme and out of touch. 70% of voters say they're dissatisfied with Democrats, and only 39% say the party has the right priorities. Even within the party, 52% of Democratic voters think Democrats should move to the center on issues in general, compared to only 25% who think they should move further left. On immigration, 46% of Democratic voters want the party to move to the center, versus 27% who want it to move left; on crime, that split is 50% to 19%.
The Democratic Party has lost sight of what has helped it govern and lead successfully historically. Roosevelt raised the floor. Truman rebuilt the middle class. Kennedy dreamt big. Johnson made government work for everyone. Clinton balanced the budget. Going into 2026 and 2028, Democrats have a real chance to prove to voters that we have their backs. The Promise will do just that, providing a positive vision for our country rooted in our American values. We are working to bring Democrats back to the basics of what has made it the party of hardworking people across America.
Meet the Team
-
FELIX FRISCH
DIRECTOR
Felix has spent the past two years in the thick of American politics behind the wheel. He drove over 50,000 miles across Western and Southern Colorado during two close congressional campaigns, where he learned firsthand that issue specificity and authentic candidates matter to voters.
He took those lessons to Washington, where he produced WelcomeFest 2025, the largest annual gathering of centrist Democrats. Now he's channeling that experience as Director of Promise to America. He is leading a team of six fellows who are frustrated with the state of politics and inspired by Democratic leaders willing to lead with specificity and courage. This summer, the team is gathering signatures for the Promise to America, a document that unites elected officials, candidates, and ordinary Americans around a shared vision.
Felix is a rising sophomore at the University of Chicago, currently on leave.
