WRITE A LTE or oped
Submitting a Letter to the Editor, penning an OpEd, and even commenting on or reposting recent articles in your local newspaper are great ways to flag the Promise to America for your community. Below are tips for each of these activities.

Letters to the Editor (LTEs) - LTEs are short compositions that respond to a specific article published in your local newspaper within the last week. When crafting your LTE, aim for 150-200 words, be respectful, make sure to mention the Promise to America, and explain why you signed it. Check your local newspaper’s instructions for submitting an LTE.
OpEds - OpEds are opinion essays from local members of the community or issue experts. OpEds should have some hook, like a contemporary topic or a relevant issue to your community. Unlike LTEs, they do not respond to specific articles. When crafting your OpEd, aim for 700-800 words, consider your area of expertise, be persuasive, and respectful to those that may disagree. Like LTEs, it is important to specifically mention the Promise to America and explain why you signed it. Check your local newspaper’s instructions for submitting an OpEd.
Comments - Many newspapers offer comment sections after the online version of their articles. These comment sections are monitored by the newspaper, and a high volume of comments can encourage reporters to continue to explore a topic. When drafting your comment, be concise, respectful, and specifically mention the Promise to America.
Reposting Articles - If a newspaper article cites the Promise to America, consider posting a link to the article on your social media and tagging @thepromise2026 on X/Twitter.
